Description

A row of four houses, now mostly offices, built in the 19th century in Milnthorpe. The houses are constructed from limestone rubble with a graduated greenslate roof, featuring a hip where it meets Park Road, a blue glazed ridge, two chimneys, bracketed ogee gutters, and 20th-century rooflights. The terrace is three storeys high and has four windows, mostly 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars. Number 1, which is now Barclays Bank, has 20th-century panelled doors within a dressed limestone surround, topped by a hood supported on brackets. Number 3 has a partly glazed panelled door with an oblong fanlight within a corniced stone surround. Number 5, occupied by Thompson Matthews, includes a 20th-century window set into an original 19th-century shop window surround, complete with an entablature and consoles. A carriage entrance on the right side features a three-centred arch with a dressed limestone surround, including voussoirs and impost blocks. The second floor has two blocked windows to the left and two small windows with glazing bars and small iron-framed opening lights. The building is listed partly for its contribution to the character of the surrounding area.
