Description
The Fleece Inn and Yard Entrance is a public house, likely built in the late 17th or early 18th century. A previous listing suggests a date of 1654, which appears on a panel in the adjoining property to the south that was part of the Inn around 1723. The building features timber framing with jettied upper floors and a wet-dashed exterior. It has a dentilled eaves cornice and a graduated slate roof. The structure is three storeys high and consists of two bays. There is a passage to the rear on the left, with the upper storeys supported by wooden beams. The south return has a 20th-century part-glazed double door, with a wood-mullioned and transomed casement to the left and an 18th-century sash window above. The east elevation includes five wooden Tuscan columns, which are 1850 replacements of the original posts, supporting a bressummer. The ground floor has a five-light casement, while each upper floor has two three-light casements, which are 20th-century insertions that do not match the building's original character. The interior was extensively remodelled in the early 1980s.
