Description

Buccleuch Hall is a village hall built around 1875 for the Duke of Buccleuch. It features limestone and slate rubble with red sandstone dressings and a finely graduated slate roof. The building is single storey and consists of six bays. It has rock-faced quoins and gabled porches at the first and sixth bays, which have projecting sills beneath altered sash windows and plain bargeboards. The inner returns of the porches contain quoined Tudor-arched doorways. Bays two to five each have a 12-pane casement window with a projecting stone sill and quoined surround. The verges overhang with plain bargeboards, and there are small stacks at the ends. Inside, the ceiling is underdrawn, revealing the feet of five trusses. This hall is part of a village rebuilding scheme initiated by the Duke of Buccleuch and is included for its group value.
