Description

This threshing barn, with an adjoining stable, stands to the south-east of Hilton Hall. It dates to 1764, as indicated by an inscription on the door lintel reading "James & Mary Lowther 1764". The barn is constructed of coursed squared rubble with quoins, featuring a graduated slate roof and stone-flagged eaves. A segmental-headed wagon door is located on the right side, while two plank doors are on the left. The lower stable adjoins the barn’s south end and is of similar construction, also under a graduated stone-flag roof. It has two doors to the front and a single door on the north return.
