Description

Midtown House is a farmhouse that includes former stables, a byre, and an adjoining barn. It is dated and inscribed over the entrance with "I & EE 1696" and has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed from pink sandstone rubble and features a graduated greenslate roof with roughcast ridge chimney stacks. It stands two storeys tall and consists of three bays, with a single-bay former stable on the right and a single-bay byre on the left, all under a common roof. The left side has a higher right-angled barn.

A 20th-century door leads to a cross-passage between the house and stable, which has a painted stone surround and a dated lintel. The house features a 19th-century three-light window and a 20th-century window on the left. On the upper floor, there is a central 20th-century sash window flanked by two sash windows with chamfered surrounds, along with a small right chamfered-surround fire window above a similar blocked window. The stable has a doorway that is partly blocked to form a window, with a 20th-century window on the right and a small chamfered-surround window on the left. The byre has a stone-surround doorway that is now a window, along with a 20th-century window beneath a plank loft door that is partly in a brick surround. The left wall of the barn features an off-centre projecting cart doorway and a lower pent extension, as well as a 20th-century upper-floor window.
