Description
The garden terrace wall, located south and east of Hutton John, dates from 1662 and is inscribed above a doorway with the text "ANDREAS HUDLESTON FIERIFECIT SOLI DEO HONOR ET GLORIA," along with three shields displaying the Hudleston arms. The wall is constructed from sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and surrounds a small garden, with the section in front of the house forming a terrace. A high wall beside the dovecote features a central doorway with a Tudor arch and an inscribed lintel beneath a pedimented hood. The remaining sections of the wall on two sides are lower, featuring shaped coping and 17th-century end urns. It is believed that the doorway was originally a front entrance, relocated from one of the wings of the main house. The wall is listed for its group value with Hutton John.
