Description

Hardendale Hall is a farmhouse dated 1747, featuring the initials H:R on a panel above the door, although it likely has a core from the 17th century. The building has been heightened and extended with later additions and alterations. It is constructed from coursed, squared rubble with quoins and has graduated slate roofs, although the rear pitch of the left-hand byre is covered with corrugated iron. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a three-bay layout, with a panelled door set in a pedimented doorcase. On each floor, there are stone-mullioned windows: a three-light casement window to the left and a two-light window to the right. The end chimneys are rendered.

To the right, there is a byre set back, added under the same roof-line, which features steps leading up to a loft door in a chamfered surround. A lower, later byre with an outshut is set back on the left, with a door in a chamfered surround and steps leading up to a loft door at the rear. The rear of the right-hand byre has a window and a chamfered byre door surround. Additionally, there is a single-storey lean-to scullery that adjoins at right angles to the main building. A lean-to wagon shed attached to the return of the left-hand byre is not of interest.
