Description

The Old Rectory is a large house built in the early 19th century, with later alterations. It features a deep plinth made of roughly dressed, squared, and snecked rubble that supports rendered walls. The roof is made of Welsh slate and has coursed stone end chimneys, along with two late 19th-century gabled dormers at the rear.

The front of the house is symmetrical, two stories high, and has three bays. There are steps leading up to a central panelled door with a rectangular fanlight above it. On either side of the door, there is a single sash window, and on the first floor, there are three 16-pane sash windows, all set within stone surrounds. The rear of the house has four bays and features a bridge leading to a late 19th-century door and porch, which replaced the original entry through the cellar. A ramp leads down to an external walkway that runs around the house at ground level.

Inside, there is an oval-shaped staircase with a spiral curtail and a large turned central baluster, along with square balusters and a cut string with carved tread-ends. All original panelled doors are intact, and their surrounds feature continuous roll-moulding that terminates in small gothic bases. Some original fireplaces remain, and the ground floor rooms are adorned with large section, roll-moulded cornices.
