Description
Lattendales Farmhouse and barn adjoining date from the early 17th century, with alterations in the 19th century. The farmhouse is constructed of mixed sandstone rubble with a graduated greenslate roof and coped gable on the right; brick and sandstone chimney stacks are also present. The building is two storeys and originally comprised two bays, with a two-bay barn attached to the left, all under a common roof. A 20th-century door is located off-centre, set within a 19th-century stone surround. 20th-century windows are set within original 17th-century surrounds, which originally held mullioned windows, though the mullions have been removed. Two 19th-century double sash windows are on the upper floor, and the original two-light stone-mullioned windows and a smaller firewindow are blocked. The barn, which has historically incorporated domestic elements, features a blocked two-light window and a 20th-century window in a 19th-century surround. The rear elevation has doorways with chamfered surrounds, blocked two-light windows, and other 20th- and 19th-century windows. The ground-floor gable wall of the barn is open with a 20th-century window. An internal lintel stone at the foot of the stairs is inscribed and dated "M & WS 1611". Later barn extensions are not of historic interest.
