Description

The farmhouse and adjoining barn at Heggerscales date to the 18th century, with later additions and alterations. The house is built of coursed squared rubble with a plinth, and has a graduated stone-flagged roof and stone end chimneys. The symmetrical, two-storey, five-bay front has central gabled porch with a plank door and sash windows. A parallel range was added to the rear of the house, constructed of similar materials. The barn features an elliptical-headed wagon door and a byre door with loft access above. A stone lintel above the porch door is initialled and dated "I.M. E.M. 1712". Twentieth-century lean-to outbuildings at the front of the barn are not included in the listing.
