Description

Town View is a house, now subdivided, built in 1831 by John Richardson for William Wilson. It was damaged by fire in 1847 and has undergone later additions and alterations. The building is constructed from limestone blocks, featuring quoins and a first-floor sill band on Nos. 1 and 3, while No. 2 has a plinth, corner pilasters, and an eaves band. Nos. 2 and 3 have a moulded cast-iron gutter supported by dentils. The roofs are covered with graduated slates, hipped on Nos. 1 and 3, and there are stone end chimneys.

Originally, the house had two storeys with cellars and nine bays arranged in a 3:3:3 pattern. It has since been divided, but it still presents three separate symmetrical front elevations. No. 1 features French windows on either side of a window (originally a door) set in a semicircular-headed stone surround. No. 2 has a sash window in a recessed, segment-headed surround on either side of a panelled door with a decorative fanlight. No. 3 has a sash window on either side of a panelled door with a semicircular fanlight in a stone surround. The upper floors have sash windows. The entrance to No. 4 is located on the south return and consists of a panelled door in a semicircular-headed stone surround with a small casement window above.
