Description

The gatehouse and adjoining curtain wall, located to the southwest of Burneside Hall, may date back to the Medieval period. The south end of the structure has been demolished, and a new gable was erected after 1690. The building features stone rubble walls and a graduated green slate roof, and it stands two storeys tall. There is a round-headed archway made of stone voussoirs, leading to a massive two-leaved oak studded door that includes a dog gate and strap-hinges, which may be original. Above the archway, there are two timber mullioned windows.
