Description
The barn and byre ranges at Ploverigg Farmhouse date from 1763, as indicated by the date and initials I. & R.M. above the farmyard wagon entrance. Constructed from coursed squared rubble with quoins, the building features hipped roofs covered with graduated slates. It has an 'L'-shaped plan, consisting of two storeys and 14 bays arranged in a 4:10 configuration. The dated section includes a central byre door made of planks, with a casement window to the left and a segment-headed wagon entrance to the right. There are three loft doors and a dovecote located under the eaves above the byre door. Stone steps lead from the angle between the ranges to a first-floor entrance in the section adjoining the house, which also has a ramp wagon entrance at the rear. Inside, the barn features 19th-century king-post roof trusses.
