Description

The gate piers located to the south-east of Howgill Castle are likely from the mid-19th century. They are rusticated and square in shape, standing approximately 15 feet high. Each pier features a heavily-moulded cornice topped with a ball finial. The wrought-iron gates, which were added in 1980, complement the piers. These structures are included in the listing for their group value with the castle.
