Description
The summer house, located approximately 95 metres north-west of Cark Hall, is likely from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It is constructed of stone rubble with quoins and is a two-storey square structure that has been roofless for many years. The east face features an entrance with a lintel, while the first floor has a window with moulded reveals and an escutcheon displaying the initials "CR" on the lintel, which was originally cross-mullioned. The south face includes a blocked three-light single-chamfered-mullioned window with a dripstone on the ground floor, and the first floor has a window with slightly chamfered reveals and a transom, also originally cross-mullioned. The north and west faces have first floor windows that were originally cross-mullioned as well. The initials are believed to refer to Christopher Rawlinson, a noted antiquarian who lived at Cark Hall from 1677 to 1733.
