Description
Brunstock Farmhouse and barns, originally part of Brunstock House's dairy, date from the late 1820s with additions from 1845, built for the Saul family. The farmhouse features English garden wall bond brickwork, which is whitewashed, and has a graduated stone-slate roof with double brick chimney stacks, one of which has a stone-coped gable. It is two storeys high and has three bays. The entrance includes a pointed chamfered stone arch and surround, complete with a hood mould and an iron-studded plank door. The ground floor windows consist of 2-3 light mullions with hood moulds and diamond cast-iron casements, though the central window has been altered to a double sash with the mullions removed. There are three corbelled-out dormer windows with crow-stepped gables; the central dormer retains its tripartite diamond cast-iron casements, while the flanking dormers have been changed to wooden and steel casements without glazing bars. The central dormer features weathered stone arms, and the other dormers have stone vents. The building has brick modillions, chimney stacks with recessed panels, and a dentilled cornice. The gable end displays a date stone from 1845.
Behind the farmhouse, facing the road, is a 2½ storey tower with similar windows and a gabled roof, which has rounded stone and an 1820s date, although it is partly cut away. This section has a similar entrance and windows to the right, while to the left are square-headed lancets with a continuous hood mould over a central panel inscribed "DAIRY." At right angles to the farmhouse, there are two-storey barns made of brick; the nearest barn has a slate roof from the 1980s, while the other has a graduated slate roof. The barns feature a large projecting cart entrance with plank doors and half-plank doors, along with slit vents on the upper floors.
