Description
The outbuilding to the north of Whitegates is a late 17th-century structure that has been adapted for use as a garage. It features additions from 1731, which are marked by the initials J. and J.H. The building has whitewashed clay walls that have been repaired with sandstone and brick, resting on large plinth stones. The walls have been raised in height with sandstone, and it has a Welsh slate roof with brick chimney stacks.
The outbuilding is 1½ storeys tall and consists of five bays. The rightmost bay, now serving as a garage, is an 18th-century stone extension. There is a plank door set in a painted stone surround, which features a dated and inscribed lintel. The building also has two-pane sash windows in painted stone surrounds, and to the left of the entrance, there is an original small fire window with a chamfered surround. The garage has large plank doors, and there is an 18th-century outshut at the rear.
