Description
The National Westminster Bank, originally a private house, was built in the early 1860s. It features painted incised stucco with a plinth, string courses, and an angle pilaster on the right side. The building has a slate roof and lacks chimney stacks. It is two storeys high with an attic and has two bays. The ground floor has a 20th-century door set in a recessed stucco surround, with a window above in a similar style. The ground floor also includes casement windows in stucco surrounds. On the first floor, there is a left-side casement window with glazing bars, situated under a console bracketed cornice on pilaster strips. Above, a round-headed casement window is located under a shaped string course. To the right, there is another casement window in a chamfered surround, with a smaller attic window above it. A plaque commemorates Kathleen Ferrier, a contralto who lived here from 1936 to 1941. The building is listed partly for its group value with Longcake's and The Golf Hotel.
