Description
Marine Terrace comprises six houses built in the early 1860s, forming a terrace that includes number 2 Waver Street. The houses are constructed with painted incised stucco, featuring a string course, eaves cornice, and broad pilastered quoins on a chamfered plinth. They have hipped Welsh slate roofs and ashlar chimney stacks.
The terrace is arranged with a central recessed section of two bays each, flanked by projecting houses that formerly had three bays each. The end houses have panelled doors topped with a glazed fanlight within a round arch. This arch is framed by a pilastered doorcase beneath a pedimented scalloped hood supported by heavily moulded console brackets, and is flanked by double sash windows. Further sash windows are located above the doors, and smaller single-pane sash windows are present on the second floor. The central houses feature paired panelled doors within pilastered surrounds, and two-storey canted bay windows on either side. An entrance to the left side, number 2 Waver Street, mirrors the detailing of the main doors. A similar entrance on the right side has been blocked. The terrace is listed partly due to its group value with Christ Church.
