Description

Newby Bridge is a road bridge over the River Irthing, built in the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of dressed red sandstone and features a high single rounded arch supported by two courses of voussoirs. The bridge has a humped back and is of single track width, with a parapet that was raised in the late 19th century. The approach walls, which are ramped, were also added in the late 19th century. The bridge lies partly within the Irthington civil parish.
