Description
Howard Cottage is a house dating from the early 18th century, likely modified as an estate house for the Howards of Corby Castle. It features rough-cast walls and a steeply pitched slate roof, which was formerly thatched. The roof has coped gables with kneelers and rendered brick chimney stacks. The building is one storey high and has five bays. The entrance has an alternating block surround, while the windows have plain surrounds, with those on the left being from the 19th century. The windows in the east gable have hood moulds, and above them is the Howard family arms, topped with a decorated bargeboard that includes the inscription "Sola Villus Invicta." In the early 19th century, the cottage was used as a Roman Catholic Church before being converted back into a house around 1842.
