Description

Holme Eden War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1919, located in the churchyard of St Paul’s Church in Holme Eden, Warwick Bridge, Cumbria. It is prominently positioned in the north-west corner of the churchyard, close to the entrance and overlooking the River Eden. The memorial features a Celtic style cross made of grey granite, approximately 2.5 meters tall, adorned with interlace ornament at the head. The cross stands on a bowed inscribed shaft, which has relief-carved lettering, and rests on a rough-hewn base that includes a relief-carved wreath at the foot. The inscriptions on the shaft read: 1914/ (NAMES)/ 1919/ ERECTED BY PARISHIONERS AND FRIENDS// 1939 1945/ (NAMES).
