Description
The Losh Mausoleum, located in Wreay Churchyard, was built in 1850 by Sarah Losh in memory of her sister Katherine Losh, who died in 1835. The mausoleum is constructed from quarry-cut Cyclopean blocks of calciferous sandstone and is a single-storey structure with one bay. The entrance features a vertical plank door flanked by lancet windows that have vertical iron bars. It has a projected cornice, a blocking course, and a flat roof. Inside, there is a white marble statue of Katherine Losh created by David Dunbar in 1850, based on a sketch by Sarah Losh made near Naples in 1817. The walls also display marble medallions dedicated to John and Isabella Losh, also sculpted by Dunbar. The statue was illustrated in Country Life on 4 November 1971, page 1231.
