Description
The Church of St Thomas a Becket is a church built in 1860 by architect Salvin, located near the site of a medieval church. It is constructed of dressed calciferous sandstone on a chamfered plinth, with ashlar quoins and a graduated green slate roof featuring coped gables. The church has a four-bay nave that includes a west double bellcote and a north aisle, while the two-bay chancel has a south vestry. The nave features north and south gabled porches with pointed arches and two-light lancet windows. The chancel is adorned with pointed lancets and a tripartite east window, and the vestry has a shouldered lintel dated 1860. Inside, there is an open timber roof and late 19th-century furnishings. The four-bay aisle is supported by round columns and pointed arches, and there is late 19th-century stained glass.
