Description
Plane Head is a house that was formerly a colliery office, built between 1836 and 1838. It is constructed from calciferous sandstone and features rusticated quoins, a stone chimney stack, and a hipped Welsh slate roof. The building is single storey and has two bays, with an additional extension bay on the right that is made from similar stonework. A 20th-century entrance porch includes a plank door. To the left, there is a small wooden casement window with glazing bars and a rusticated surround, while to the right, a larger triple casement window with glazing bars is present, along with a similar window in the extension. The name "Plane Head" comes from the nearby waggonway that had an inclined plane, and this building served as an office for the coal staith, which was formerly located on this site.
