Description

Church Farmhouse is a private house that dates from the mid-18th century, with an adjoining barn that likely replaced an earlier structure in the late 18th century. The farmhouse features Flemish bond brickwork with light headers and is set on a chamfered plinth, with all dressings made of painted stone. It has a graduated greenslate roof and end brick chimney stacks. The barn is constructed in English Garden Wall bond brickwork on a red sandstone rubble plinth, and its wall has been raised with red brick, also topped with a greenslate roof.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three bays in a double-depth plan, with the barn positioned lower to the right. The central entrance has a panelled door with an integral fanlight, possibly from the 20th century, framed by a quoined surround with a keystone feature. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are set in brick reveals beneath flat brick arches and stone sills, with the ground-floor windows being broader. The left side of the house is slate hung.

Inside, the farmhouse has panelled doors with wooden architraves, including a late-19th century glazed door with coloured glass panels. There is a rounded stair arch leading to a wooden staircase that features an integral cupboard, turned newel posts, squared balusters, a moulded handrail, and carved tread ends. The barn's interior includes two pairs of crucks that have been raised to accommodate a new roof height, likely salvaged from the earlier barn that was rebuilt in brick.

The listing also includes the low wall and speared railings outside the house, as well as a cobbled area in front of the barn, which are of interest.
