Description

Bramerton is a house that likely dates from the late 18th century, with significant alterations made in the mid-19th century. It features handmade brick walls and a Welsh slate roof, along with 19th-century ridge and end brick chimney stacks. The building stands two and a half storeys tall and has four bays. The three bays on the right are part of the original structure, which has been modified by raising the wall and adding a central half-gabled dormer. The original front doorway has been blocked and replaced with a window. The house has sash windows with glazing bars set in brick reveals, flat brick arches, and painted stone sills, while the dormer window lacks glazing bars. The left bay is recessed and was added to connect with the adjacent house, Bramerton Lodge, when both were combined into a single residence by J.A. Cory, the County Surveyor and Architect who lived there from 1856. This bay features a panelled door within a stone architrave, framed by fluted Tuscan columns in a porch. Above, there is a sash window with glazing bars in brick reveals. Inside, the hall is lined with black limestone pilastered columns, which were originally open but are now blocked in. The hall also has a moulded plaster ceiling cornice and decorative Victorian floor tiles. The property is complemented by a low garden wall at the front and speared railings.
