Description
Two houses in a row, dating from the early 19th century, are located on Wood Street in Botcherby, Carlisle. The houses are constructed of painted brickwork set upon chamfered plinths, with painted stone dressings. They share a local slate roof, common to both properties, and have cement-rendered ridge and end chimney stacks. Each house has two storeys and three bays. Both houses feature central panelled doors; the door at number 32 is 20th century, while the door at number 34 has a radial fanlight. Both doors are within pilastered round-headed surrounds, that on number 34 with fluting, imposts, and a keystone, and the surround on number 32 appears to have been partly cut away. Sash windows with glazing bars are set within plain brick reveals and stone sills. The rear of number 32 has a 20th-century extension. The rear of number 34 features a blocked doorway and windows, with 20th-century doors introduced at the rear and the left return. The interiors have not been inspected. It was previously suggested that number 32 was likely originally the stable range for number 34.
