Description

The Globe Hotel is a late 18th-century and 19th-century building of three storeys, situated on the south side of Main Street. The exterior is roughcast with quoins and an eaves cornice supported by iron brackets. A central doorway is accentuated by a Victorian doorpiece featuring stumpy columns and a round arch. The front façade has three sash windows at ground level, with seven sash windows on each of the upper floors, the left-hand windows being at a lower level. The hotel is historically significant as a frequent residence for John Dalton and a lodging for Robert Louis Stevenson in 1871. The building contributes to a group of listed buildings along the South Side of Main Street.
