Description

The air shaft cap to the former railway tunnel is located at the Whitehaven & Furness Junction Railway, which opened in 1852 and runs beneath the grounds of Whitehaven Castle. This structure is made of engineering brick and features a stone string course along with pseudo-crenellated coping.
