Description
St Aidan's Church Hall is a church hall dated 1901, designed by CJ Ferguson. It is constructed from quarry-faced red sandstone rubble, featuring flush ashlar quoins and dressings. The building has a graduated greenslate roof with coped gables and is a single storey with six bays, showcasing a simple Perpendicular style. The left side has a panelled door in a stone surround beneath a carved lintel, while there are 2-, 3-, and 4-light mullioned windows in chamfered stone surrounds. An emergency door has been inserted at the rear. The interior has not been inspected. A foundation stone at the southwest angle was laid on 11 June 1901 by Mrs. Catherine Blanshard, who funded the hall's construction. Original plans are held at the Cumbria County Record Office. The adjoining vestry connects the hall to the Church of St Aidan, and the hall is included for its group value.
