Description
Nos. 2 and 4 Howard Place are two houses that form the end of a terrace, built in the 1850s or 1860s. They feature Flemish bond brickwork with light headers on a chamfered plinth, and have a stone-bracketed metal gutter, with all dressings made of calciferous sandstone. The roofs are covered with graduated slate and are hipped at the corner, including one skylight. The original ridge brick chimney stacks have been partly reduced.
The houses are two storeys high and each has three bays. No. 2 includes a single-bay return on Warwick Road. Both houses have central panelled doors with overlights set in Tuscan doorcases. The sash windows are present, with No. 2 retaining upper floor glazing bars and featuring a two-storey canted bay window on the left. The windows are set in brick reveals with flat brick arches and stone sills. The interiors have not been inspected. This property is shown on the first edition Ordnance Survey map from 1865.
