Description

Christ Church War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1921, located in the churchyard of the Church of St Aidan on Warwick Road in Carlisle, Cumbria. It is prominently positioned outside the front of the church along the main road. The memorial features a wooden gabled calvary set on an octagonal stone plinth with an octagonal two-stepped base. Both the plinth and the base have inscriptions in incised lettering. The inscription on the plinth reads "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN CONNECTED WITH THIS PARISH AND CONGREGATION WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918" followed by the names of the fallen. The base bears the inscription "REST ETERNAL GRANT THEM O LORD."
