Description
Nos 19 and 20 on Irish Street, built around 1840 to 1850, showcase an Italianate design, possibly by S. Smirke. The buildings are three storeys high and are finished in stucco. They feature a heavy stucco cornice at the eaves, complemented by an enriched moulded frieze and modillions. The central entrance consists of double doors, flanked by five windows on the ground floor that have in and out bands. The first floor includes six windows, each with projecting stucco balconies supported by brackets, moulded architraves, and raking pediments on consoles. The second floor has casement windows, all of which are adorned with moulded architraves and cornices. A small front area is enclosed by stucco balustrading. To the left, there is an entrance to the coach house, which features four small round-headed windows above and a pierced balustrade above the modillion eaves. Nos 17 to 20 are part of a cohesive group.
