Description
Denton Mill is a former water corn mill located on the site of an earlier mill, with documentary evidence indicating that a mill existed here in the late 16th century. The earliest part of the current building likely dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with additional features added in the late 18th and 19th centuries. The structure is built from calciferous sandstone coursed rubble and has a Welsh slate roof with coped gables. It stands two storeys high and has three bays. The former entrance has been obscured by right-angle extensions of one and two storeys. Inside the extension, the initials R.W. 1724, I.F. 1726, W. 1726 H., and C.R. 1796 can be seen above the original entrance. The mill features small square unglazed openings, but the wheel and machinery are missing. The listing does not include the later brick extensions in front of the 19th-century additions.
