Description

Denton Foot is a house, originally a fortified farmhouse known as a bastle, dated 1594, with 19th-century additions and alterations. The initials C.B. (Christopher Bell) are inscribed on a lintel. The construction is of thick calciferous sandstone rubble walls, over 2 metres in thickness, set on a chamfered plinth and featuring large flush quoins. The roof is of Welsh slate with coped gables, and the chimney stacks are of 19th-century cream brick.

The original house comprises two storeys and three bays, with a two-storey, two-bay extension to the left. The original house now has 19th-century two-pane sash windows with chamfered surrounds. A central upper-floor window has been reconfigured through a filled entrance, reusing the dated lintel. The right-hand side wall contains a filled ground-floor entrance and a small attic window. The rear wall retains two small original first-floor windows with original iron grilles. The left-hand extension features a 19th-century porch and similar 19th-century windows with rusticated surrounds. The listing excludes outbuildings.
