Description
Seascale Hall is a farmhouse built around 1710, with a 19th-century north range. It features roughcast stone with ashlar dressings and a slate roof. The east elevation has two storeys and six bays, with the sixth bay forming the gable end of the 19th-century wing. The windows are single-chamfered cross-mullioned types with label moulds. The entrance in the third bay has a bolection-moulded architrave, a two-light overlight, and a three-fielded panel door with two panels over one. A datestone from 1579 is present. The building has gable-end stacks, including one in the sixth bay, and a cross-axial stack. The south gable end features a projecting stack and a lean-to porch with a datestone reading "1710/R & EB" on a shield. The north elevation has four bays with similar details but is taller, also featuring gable-end stacks. The rear has an outshut under a catslide roof, a gabled bay to the north, and a gabled stair bay. The windows at the rear have small-paned pivoted casements, and there is a stair window with a label and a round window. A small datestone displays the Ponsonby arms with the inscription "IS/MS/1606" and is decorated with scrolls. Inside, there is a stair with a twisted column on vase balusters, remains of a spiral stair, and a first-floor room with panelling, a dado, and a bolection-moulded panel over the fireplace, along with an architrave to the doors, one of which is an imitation.
