Description

Kirkbride House and the adjoining barn are a farmhouse and barn complex dated 1774, as inscribed over the archway. The farmhouse features painted rendered brick walls with painted V-jointed quoins on a chamfered plinth, topped by a graduated greenslate roof with brick chimney stacks. It is a two-storey, two-bay structure with a lower extension and a barn under a common roof, along with a right-angled extension at the rear. The farmhouse has sash windows set in painted stone architraves. There is a 20th-century door in a quoined surround on the left extension, with a small casement window above it. To the left, a carriage arch has a keyed and quoined surround featuring a dated keystone. The rear extension includes a long 20th-century glazed porch, with a plank door to the left in a painted stone surround and a 20th-century garage door to the right. The sash windows have glazing bars and are also in painted stone surrounds. The barn, constructed of coursed red sandstone rubble, has a graduated greenslate roof and features oval vents on the front. The rear of the barn includes two carriage arches on the left and a large cart entrance on the right, along with plank doors and slit vents. The property is illustrated in John Prizeman's book, "Your House: The Outside View," plate 7.
