Description
Kirkwood Farmhouse and the attached barn were built in the late 18th century. The farmhouse features coursed squared stone with a stone slate roof that has been covered in bitumen, while the barn has a Welsh slate roof. The two-storey farmhouse has a two-bay design with the barn positioned at a right angle to the right. The house includes quoins and a central doorway with a quoined surround, leading to a four-panel door that is now flush. On both floors, there is a three-light flat-faced mullion window on each side. The gable copings are supported by cut kneelers on the left, and there are two ashlar end stacks.
The barn has a large segmental-headed cart entrance on the left, which is currently blocked, featuring a newly inscribed keystone that reads "1760." There are five stable doors, some of which have been altered or blocked, with three original doors that have deep lintels and quoined surrounds. Additionally, there are two square pitching holes at a high level. The rear of the barn includes an opposing cart entrance with a deep lintel, while other openings are mainly later additions. Inside the farmhouse, several original two-panel doors and fittings for the external door remain. In the barn, the upper floor of the left section is supported by four cast-iron columns, while the right section is supported by timber posts.
