Description
This is a barn located to the north of Kirkbride House, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed from a mix of red sandstone rubble and split cobbles, featuring flush quoins and sandstone dressings. The roof is made of graduated greenslate with bottom courses of sandstone slates. The barn is long and low, with two storeys. There is a central segmental cart entrance fitted with a sliding plank door. To the left, there is an entrance with a recut lintel inscribed and dated R.D, A.D. 1691, which originally came from a nearby demolished cottage. The barn also has plank loft doors and slit vents. There are 20th-century extensions to the rear that are not of interest. This barn is included partly for its group value with Kirkbride House.
