Description
The granary and dairy east of Schoose Farmhouse, built around 1800 for John Christian Curwen, is now used as a farm store. It is constructed from calciferous sandstone rubble with flush quoins and has a hipped roof made of graduated greenslate. The building has three storeys and features nine bays. The right portion includes ashlar steps leading to loft doorways on two levels beneath a hoist gablet. The ground-floor segmental-headed doorways have been blocked to create windows, while the upper floor has louvred windows set in plain stone surrounds. The left portion features an enlarged 20th-century cart doorway and brick-blocked windows, also in plain stone surrounds. There is a vaulted basement that was formerly used as a dairy. To the left, there is a single-storey cell with one bay, made of rubble with large quoins, a chimney, and roof vents. A rear lean-to asbestos shed is not of interest. This granary is part of a model farm and is listed for its group value with other farm buildings.
