Description
Durranhill Lodge is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the mid-18th century and has an inscription over the entrance stating it was rebuilt in 1870. The building is constructed of handmade bricks in English bond, with painted stone quoins on the right side and all dressings made of painted stone. It features a Welsh slate roof with a skylight, where the bottom slates are made of stone, and has coped gables with kneelers. The gable brick chimney stacks have been rebuilt. The lodge is two storeys high and has a three-bay, two-window range that is almost symmetrical. There is a central 20th-century door within a stone surround, with ground floor two-light stone mullioned sash windows set in stone architraves, and smaller sashes above in stone surrounds. To the left, there is a contemporary lean-to extension with a 20th-century door in a stone surround. A blind attic window is located on the right return, and there is a contemporary stair projection at the rear. Inside, the principal room has boxed beams and a stone heck partition, while the rest of the interior dates from 1870 or later. The rebuilding appears to have mainly involved the roof and chimney stacks. The building later served as a lodge for Durranhill House, which is reflected in its name.
