Description
The gates and gate piers located to the east of the West Lodge at Carlisle Cemetery were built between 1855 and 1856 by the architectural firm Messrs JM & J Hay of Liverpool. Constructed from calciferous sandstone ashlar and cast iron, the design features simple speared double gates that are flanked by piers. These piers include stone buttresses and triple-gabled caps. Notably, the left pier has an Ordnance Survey bench mark.
