Description
The West Lodge for Carlisle Cemetery was built between 1855 and 1856 by Messers JM & J Hay of Liverpool. It is constructed of red brick on a chamfered stone plinth, with all dressings made of calciferous sandstone. The building features flush quoins, string courses, and a modillioned eaves cornice. The roof is made of Welsh slate and is partly hipped, with a red brick chimney stack at one end. The lodge is two storeys tall and has two bays. The left bay is set back and includes a plank door within a painted chamfered surround. The right bay is gabled and projects outward, featuring a ground floor squared bay window with three mullioned lights that have pointed heads, and a similar two-light window above. The interior has not been inspected.
