Description
Ellen Hall and the adjoining barn is a farmhouse and barn dating from the mid-17th century, with some alterations and additions made in the 20th century. The farmhouse features painted rendered walls beneath a graduated greenslate roof, complete with painted rendered chimney stacks. The barn is constructed from whitewashed limestone rubble and has a corrugated asbestos roof.
The building stands two storeys high and consists of three bays, with the barn located to the right under a common roof line. A 20th-century porch covers the internal door, which has a weathered lintel inscription believed to be related to the Lyons family. The farmhouse has sash windows set in original 17th-century surrounds, all of which are topped with hoodmoulds. There is a small fire window on the ground floor to the right.
Inside, the farmhouse features an inglenook with a firebeam and a heck partition. The barn includes a left plank door framed in a 17th-century chamfered-stone surround, a projecting cart entrance to the right, and a lean-to shippon with slit vents. There is another doorway with a 17th-century surround to the right. A 19th-century barn extension at the extreme right is noted as not being of interest.
