Description
The dovecote located south of the Church of St Cuthbert is a Grade II* listed building, likely dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed from large blocks of dressed red sandstone and St Bees sandstone, topped with a hipped roof made of graduated greenslate. The south side features a partly-blocked narrow doorway, while the north wall has large 19th-century double plank doors that have been modified to accommodate a hearse. Inside, there are remnants of the original stone boulins. For further details, refer to the Transactions of the Cumberland & Westmorland Antiquarian & Archaeological Society, old series, volume ix, pages 425-426.
