Description
Threapland Hall is a building that has been converted into a farmhouse. It dates from the late 15th century or early 16th century and has undergone alterations in the 19th century. The structure features extremely thick roughcast walls topped with a graduated greenslate roof and stone chimney stacks. It stands three storeys high and consists of three bays. A 20th-century door is set in a chamfered surround beneath a hoodmould lintel that bears a weathered inscription and the date 1709. The building has sash windows in their original chamfered surrounds, also under hoodmoulds, and a stair window on the left side with a chamfered surround. There is a 19th-century extension at the rear and an additional single-storey kitchen extension. Inside, there is an angle Tudor-arched doorway that leads to a newel staircase, which is built into the thickness of the wall and ascends to the first and second floors. The second floor has windows that have been externally blocked but are still visible from the inside; this floor is now used as an attic. Threapland Hall was home to a branch of the Salkelds of Whitehall from the early 17th century.
