Description

The gate piers to the west of Woodside Lodge were likely built between 1879 and 1880 during the second rebuilding of Woodside by C.J. Ferguson for Rev. James Losh. They are made of calciferous sandstone ashlar and consist of two squared columns featuring alternating large and small blocks. Each capital displays the Losh family coats of arms on all sides, and there is a moulded cornice that was originally topped with carved stone owls, designed in the style of Sarah Losh. One of these owls is now a garden feature nearby, while the other has been damaged and is missing. The gate piers are listed for their group value with the nearby Woodside Lodge.
