Description

Nos. 9 to 21 Main Street comprise a group of buildings dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. No. 21, known as Tye House, is a three-storey building with quoins, a cornice supported by modillions, and a shop front with three windows on each upper floor. The Black Bull public house and the adjacent shop are two storeys high, with stuccoed elevations featuring six sash windows above, a yard doorway, a pub door, and a small shop front below. To the left of the Black Bull are two former houses, also two storeys high, with shop fronts and narrow yard entries at ground floor level. They feature four and three sash windows above, set in plain stone frames, and have moulded eaves. No. 9 (Cornthwaite) has quoins and is two storeys high, with a central doorway, a shop window on the left, a sash window on the right, and three sash windows above, set in moulded stone frames. All the listed buildings on the South Side of Main Street form a group.
