Description
Brock House and Keepers Cottage, along with their attached kitchen garden walls, date from the 18th century and are located approximately 0.5 miles southeast of Edgcote House. The structure features squared coursed limestone, ironstone, and brick. It forms a rectangular enclosure, with the north wall flanked by cottages that have pedimented temple fronts. The garden walls are constructed of red and blue brick with stone coping, faced on the outside with limestone and ironstone.
The entrance to the enclosure is a plain opening located to the right of the center. Brock House, the cottage on the right, is built of squared uncoursed limestone and ironstone, with a limestone ashlar front and an artificial stone slate roof. It is an L-plan building with two storeys and two bays, featuring a pedimented temple front supported by two Tuscan columns and two half columns, with a plain recess behind. The side entrance has a stone lintel and a six-panel door, while the windows on the ground floor have segmental stone heads, and wood lintels above.
Keepers Cottage, on the left, has a similar temple front and is also L-plan, but it is a one-storey building with an attic. It features a side entrance with a wood lintel and a plank door, as well as a stone segment-headed window on the ground floor and a 20th-century attic dormer. The kitchen garden originally included a central canal, which has since been filled in, that was fed from a pond on the north side, part of an irrigation system for the Edgcote estate.
